Tiling surfaces subject to moisture, chemical attacks or heavy traffic need a Construction Epoxy Adhesive that withstands high, continuous and long-term wear & tear. At times, the adhesive also doubles up as a grout between the tiles. Being quite fluid, the adhesive easily fills up the volume between tiles with minimal force. Its thixotropic nature keeps sag resistance low. The liquid epoxy resin being multi-blended has low viscosity while maintaining high crystallisation resistance. The curing agent, a formulated amine mixture gives reasonably high mechanical strength. When cured, it maintains lower reactivity ensuring that the working time of the final adhesive is not too short. Hydrophilic in nature, the excess material after installation can be easily wiped away with just water & a sponge.
Construction designs may involve the insertion of steel rods such as bolts or screws into existing concrete surfaces. These fixtures need to withstand considerable tensile stresses and require an anchoring mechanism with excellent load-bearing capabilities. Chemical anchoring involves injecting a resin adhesive into a pre-drilled borehole in the concrete substrate. The steel rod or bolt is inserted into the resin-filled bore hole and is allowed to fully cure to anchor the fixture in place. While many resins like polyesters, vinyl esters and hybrid acrylate-epoxy are used for chemical anchoring, a pure two-component Construction Adhesive system is used more widely for higher load-bearing applications. The liquid resin component formulated with a specialty reactive diluent ensures low viscosity and high functionality for optimum tensile and lap shear strength. Epoxy Adhesive system-based chemical anchors deliver low viscosity, fast reactivity, high mechanical properties in particular lap shear strength. They are superior to mechanical anchors since they are impermeable, highly chemical and corrosion resistant.
In an application which needs the adhesive to withstand the highest load bearing in the construction industry, Construction Adhesive systems with its full range of mechanical strength- compressive, tensile and slant shear, is a preferred choice. The base resin system consist of a liquid epoxy resin with minimal diluent loading or a specialty epoxy resin with high functionality for extremely high degree of strength. The curing agent, a formulated amine blend contains suitable accelerators to achieve the desired speed of cure. Construction Adhesive systems can be formulated with various fillers and used as a 2-pack epoxy mortar. Being moisture tolerant, these adhesive systems deliver excellent bond strength to the substrate under varied ambient conditions.
